The UE 歌剧 (UEO) provides theatrical performing opportunities for music 和 non-music majors alike. All productions are fully staged with lights, costumes 和 sets. Fall Semester activities are usually focused on a performance of scenes or one-act pieces organized around a theme. Spring Semester features performance of a complete opera. Recent additions to our students' experience have been productions in foreign language, the addition of instrumental accompaniment, off-campus tours 和 children's productions, 和 presentations on the stage of the Victory Theatre in Evansville.
In 2016 和 with a generous grant from the William E. Schmidt Foundation, UE 歌剧 launched two new initiatives: the Schmidt 歌剧 Series 和 the Schmidt 歌剧 Collaborative. The Schmidt 歌剧 Series is UE 歌剧's Mainstage productions with two productions per year, one with instrumental accompaniment. The Schmidt 歌剧 Collaborative provides outreach into the Tri-State Area in a variety of venues including schools, 养老院, 和教堂.
Students involved in UE 歌剧 also have the opportunity to gain professional experience through an ongoing collaboration with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. 近年来, students have provided the chorus 和 comprimario roles in several EPO productions including: 西区故事, 茶花女 (威尔第), 质量 (Bernstein), Il barbiere di Siviglia (罗西尼), Madama蝴蝶 (普契尼).
